European thinkers have for a long time been at the heart of social theory—Marx, Weber, Durkheim—as well as those of more recent vin- tage—Foucault, Habermas, Giddens, Derrida—and provide a foundation for contempo- rary analysts in the framing of their scholarship. While their work is rich and important, it is not without its problems.
